MariLim

MariLim - Aquatic Research and Investigations was founded 1993 by Mr. Dipl. - Biol. Th. Meyer. At present 20 firmly employees co-workers and several free co-workers cooperate interdisciplinary with MariLim. All co-workers possess state recognized certificates. The high-level personel and the further academic co-workers are university alumnies with qualifications diploma biologist and diploma geographer. Within the technical range biological-technical assistants (or equivalently), who possess partial auxiliary qualifications e.g. in the production of data bases work together. MariLim puts a special value on the guarantee of the quality of their products and appraisals.

company profile

MariLim changed its name on 01.01.2009 into MariLim society for Waters investigation ltd. Managing director is still Thomas Meyer. Several coworkers are member in various national and international committees, among other things at the quality assurance biology in the context of the federal land measuring program and participation to the UBA and QUASIMEME interlaboratory tests. MariLim intends itself to accredit in 2009/2010 within the range macrozoo- and makrophytobenthos (sampling and evaluation) of that DACH leaves. In 2007 the requirements for this were created in co-operation with the UBA .

Conversion EU-Waterframework Directive (WRRL)

Since 2003 MariLim continuously works on projects, which deal with the conversion of the EU-Waterframework Directive (WRRL) in the coastal sea for the quality components Makrophytobenthos and - zoobenthos. In the course of these work the evaluation model MarBIT (MARine Biotic Index Tool) for the macrozoobenthos of the Baltic Sea was developed and already examined in several practice tests. Further the suitability of the system MarBIT was evaluated and examined for the zoobenthos of the North Sea for different ecological system components (mussel banks, rock Watts of Helgoland,…).
Starting from 2004 the evaluation models for Makrophyten of the Baltic Sea were examined for their applicability in different practice tests. For the outside territorial waters this led to a restructured and revised version of the evaluation system for makrophyts, which is consulted now under the name BALCOSIS (Baltic Algae COmmunity analysis Sytem) since two years in the Baltic Sea for the evaluation. A procedural instruction for the monitoring of the ecological condition of makrophyts in the BALCOSIS procedure was submitted in the year 2008.
As a developer for evaluation models MariLim represents the federal states of germany in the international group of intercalibrations of the Baltic Sea and took over the presidency of the group for the quality component macrozoobenthos. Further MariLim cooperates in the production of the relevant SOP procedures (Standard Operational Procedures) for macrozoobenthos and makrophyts in the context of the quality assurance in the BLMP program and took over the presidency of the working group UAG QA makrophytobenthos.

NATURA 2000 (FFH guideline), HELCOM monitoring

Since its establishment is involved MariLim in different programs for the investigation and definition of guidelines in the context of the HELCOM program. Therein the comprehensive experience of MariLim regarding the structure and function of the different ecological systems and detailed knowledge justify themselves to the occurrence of certain kinds of indicator particularly in the shallow water of the Baltic Sea. Proposals and monitoring programs for special navy of protected areas in the Baltic Sea (BSPAs) were developed and converted and formed the basis for the formulation of preservation goals for the habitat types into the appropriate NATURA 2000 areas. As a subcontractor Marilim participates 2007 to compile a NATURA 2000-monitoring concept for the coastal-far range.
